Itasca, IL – August 18, 2016 – When it comes to antennas for Smart City technology, the possibilities are almost endless in terms of applications and mounting locations. Mobile Mark’s HD4-2400 is an example of a versatile omni-directional antenna that can be mounted inside of manholes on a city street, allowing for a covert installation that can extend WiFi coverage in an urban area.

The HD4-2400 operates in the frequency range of 2400 to 2485 MHz, with 4 dBi peak gain. It has a 50 ohm nominal impedance and an input power of 10 Watts. The HD4 is vertically polarized with a 120 degree vertical beamwidth and a 360 degree horizontal beamwidth. It comes standard with 3 ft (91.4 cm) of RF-195 cable and terminates with an SMA plug.

The radome of this extremely durable antenna is made of an overmolded black UV stable polyamide that is damage resistant, weather resistant, and vibration resistant. It passes the IP67 water ingress rating, as well as several military and industrial standards for shock and vibration. It can be used as a stand-alone antenna or it can be installed as part of a larger multi-band wireless installation, as would be the case in a smart city application.

In addition to being durable, the HD4-2400 also has a very low profile. In a manhole mounted setting, a car tire passing overhead is a common scenario that the antenna can easily handle. Because the antenna is ground plane independent, it does not require a metal surface for functionality.

The HD4-2400 offers a new surface mounted solution for any number of 2.4 GHz applications, and can be a valuable asset when building out a Smart City network.
