WIFI MIMO SURFACE MOUNT ANTENNA

Itasca, IL, February 10, 2015 – When Mobile WiFi Hotspots are needed for Police vehicles or for Passenger Buses, installers are turning to Mobile Mark for the SMD Series WiFi MIMO Surface Mount Antenna. This compact antenna features three separate connection ports for optimum MIMO (multiple-input-multiple-output) performance with 3-port WiFi modems.

The antenna provides coverage on both 2.4-2.5 & 4.9-6.0 GHz. This allows the antenna to operate on the 5 GHz band for 802.11ac, but also be backwards compatible for 802.11n and 802.11b/g modems.

The SMD Series mobile antenna achieves MIMO  performance with the three antenna elements housed within the radome. Jerry Posluszny, Director of Engineering, explained that, “This 3-port WiFi MIMO antenna features spatial diversity in which the three antenna elements resonate on identical frequency bands but slightly different data is transmitted on each of the antenna elements. This particular antenna model is very efficient and offers greater than 20 dB isolation among the elements.”

The antenna offers 4 dBi gain on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band. At this gain, wireless coverage is provided over a fairly large distance while still providing dequate vertical beamwidth coverage for hard to reach areas.

When paired with Mobile Mark’s LTM Series LTE Antenna and an appropriate modem, a perfect LTE connected WiFi hotspot can be achieved.

The SMD Antenna can be mount outside the vehicle (e.g. for Police Vehicle mobile hotspots) or inside the vehicle (e.g. for bus passenger internet service). When mounted externally, the antenna will stand up to harsh environments. It has a water ingress rating of IPx7 and meets Industry & Military standards for shock and vibration.

A magnet-mount version of the SMD Series antenna is available for short-term applications or for vehicles where a permanent installation is not possible. The mag-mount option can be useful for demoing the network or for providing temporary WiFi Hotspot coverage from a vehicle.
